iPhone Photography: Silver Comet Cyclist

SilverComet

This morning I noticed it was too nice of a day to stay inside at my computer working all day, so I went to Silver Comet trail for a bike ride. I think some of the riders, rollerbladers, and runners thought I had lost my mind for laying in the middle of the trail to take this as they zipped past me. Maybe I have. I plan on going back when the light is just right with a couple of bike riders that will follow my direction and really doing this shot the way I see it. This is nowhere near as cool as I can make it look.

The interesting thing about the experience of taking this shot to me was that some of the riders rode by and made nasty comments about me being in the middle of the road, and being hard to see. I was cussed at a little bit — which is fine. But, some of these same cyclist are the ones that like to preach the whole “share the road” thing to motorist so they can do what they love — ride their bike. Yet, some of them didn’t seem to want to extend the same courtesy of sharing the road with me as I did what I love — take photos. In this case they were the motorist, and I was the cyclist. Now, maybe they know how the motorist feel when they are in the middle of city streets riding their bike at a rate of speed that is much slower than the traffic around them is moving, endangering themselves and other drivers. There are some places you just don’t belong, because it just isn’t safe, whether you have a right to be there or not.

I didn’t belong out there taking this shot, but I risked it to get the shot I wanted because, just like them, I was doing what I love.
