I’m often asked if I do studio work and if I have a studio. Well — yes and no. This is Lorrin, and she’s an attorney that was recently hired at a law firm that’s a client of mine. They hire me to come in and do headshots like this whenever they hire new attorneys, and part of my job in doing them is to make them look consistent, so it looks like they were all taken on the same day rather than months, and even years apart. The light placement in this shot was measured down to the inch, and the light power was measured to within a 10th of a stop for each light – and I do the shots in the firm’s conference room. So, their office environment becomes my “studio,” and I have had a lot of experience turning random environments into my “studio.” I also have had some potential clients approach me about doing headshots like this as if they feel like I’m above it, and are even embarrassed to ask me to do such work. Please don’t ever feel this way, especially if you have a fair budget for what you need to have done. This is bread-and-butter type work, and it comes fairly easy to me. That doesn’t mean it’s easy though. Not every photographer can come in and do headshots and consistently match things to get the same results every time. I can though, and I will, if you need me to.
