Today’s photo of the day is a throwback shot I took with my iPhone of my parents dog back in 2011. They called him Toad. I called him Joe. He’d answer to both. They had to have him put down yesterday after he suddenly became severely diabetic. He was a rescue, and apparently he had been beaten by whoever had him prior to my parents. He was super skittish. So much so that right after they got him I would have to lay down flat on the ground with a treat in my hand and let him slowly approach me for me to even be able to touch him. This was pretty unusual for me since dogs usually take to me pretty well – and quickly. He gradually got where he was comfortable with us, but always was super cautious about who he’d approach – or let approach him.  He was an absolutely beautiful chocolate lab – as you can see in this shot I got of him eyeballing a squirrel up in a tree.

They got him after I moved to Atlanta, so I never have gotten that attached to him. My dad sure did though. He’d follow my dad everywhere when he was outside. So, I feel horrible for my dad. I know it had to be rough on him having him put down so suddenly.

He says he doesn’t want another dog. But, the man needs another dog.

I love dogs, and so does he.
