Earlier this year I shot an advertising campaign for Georgia Power thats concept was to show how their employees are out making a difference in the community by volunteering in various ways.

Rather than hiring talent / models for this, they featured their employees doing what they really do when out volunteering. This was great because it makes the campaign more authentic. It also made it more of a challenge for me though. Rather than having models that are totally at ease in front of the camera, and use to taking instruction from photographers, I had real Georgia Power employees who would not be as comfortable – nor were they use to having a photographer – in this case me – give very specific instructions on what to do. I routinely photograph working professionals that are not models and have to capture them looking as if they are totally comfortable when they may not be, but this shoot was a bit more stressful for me due to all the planing / production / money that had gone into it.

They also were interested in having me capture things in a very natural way. Meaning: not overproduced, over-lit, or over-stylized. Simple isn’t always easy though. I blended in strobe with the ambient light in the room to achieve the look they were going for. In the end, they were very happy with what I delivered.
