Some of you may dislike your job, but how many of your job descriptions include blood getting splattered on your face while cleaning dead animals all day? This is Mike, and this is what he looked like after having cleaned 35 hogs earlier in the day. Yes, that’s spots of blood on his nose and around his eye – and his workday wasn’t even finished yet at this point.

Mike’s workday routinely involves working in a non air condition / heated space, smelling the guts of gut-shot animals, and getting wet while working with water (when it’s near freezing at times) on the kill floor of the shop. He has worked for my buddy Wayne – who owns L&W Processing – a butcher shop in my hometown of Madison, FL – for five years now. I ask Mike to share one thought with those that viewed this portrait of him, and his response was, “I’m having a good time doing what I’m doing. I love my job.”

Think about that. Think about working a job under those circumstances and loving it. What a great example of how your attitude and perception of life is far more important than your circumstances in it, don’t you think?

Things are going great around here for me. Business is good, and taking photos of random people like this (and getting their story while doing so ) is one of the things I love most about what I do.
