“Oh you mean me! My mamma says I’m a good boy!’ Well, your mamma is gonna go to hell with you.” –Street Corner Preacher Man

I was on assignment shooting in downtown Atlanta last month when this street corner preacher caught my attention with what he was saying to the Atlanta Hawks fans that were headed into Phillips arena. He seemed to be desperate for everybody’s attention, so naturally, I gave him mine with my camera. He was chastising people that were simply headed to the game with their family – talking about how they had all come to Atlanta to spend their hard earned money at that game – sinning by doing so – when they should be at home repenting for all of their sins.

That’s when he said in a mocking voice to all those trying their best to ignore him, ‘‘You mean me. My mamma says I’m a good boy.’ Well, your mamma is gonna go to hell with you!” At that point I stopped shooting and made it a point to write down exactly what he had just said. Because, you know, what could be better to say to somebody, to win over their hearts – and encourage them to embrace the Christian faith – than to tell them their mamma is going to hell with them?
