The Great American Eclipse

I shot this time lapse of my view in the path of totality yesterday. For fun, I used the sunny sixteen rule to set my exposure with and then left it there throughout the eclipse as my camera did its thing. I did nothing to adjust the files in regards to their brightness, color saturation, etc in post production. The sunny sixteen rule works! Just as long as the moon doesn’t get in the way of the sun. In all my years as a photographer, this was the first time I had actually applied it I think.

Being in the path of totality for the eclipse was pretty amazing, and I owe big thank you to my wife, Julia’s, family for giving me a place to crash up there on Sunday night and a dock on Lake Burton to capture this video from yesterday. I also owe a big thank you to my cousin Science Mike. Listening to his recent podcast episode about the eclipse is what pushed me to go on ahead and make the trip up to see it – even though Julia ended up having to work. Had it not been for that I may have just skipped it because I really didn’t want to go without her. It was as awesome as you led me to believe it would be. Thank you, Sir!
