Good Music & Good Photography: Tedeschi Trucks Band, John Mayer, & Mark Seliger

I’ve spent my Saturday tethered to my computer via my headphones, listening to the these two newly released albums while editing photos for clients. John Mayer’s latest, Paradise Valley, is really good, probably my favorite of his since Continuum. It’s got an excellent J.J. Cale cover on it, and it just sounds pristine. Very well done all around. The recording / mastering, or whatever, it just SOUNDS really good. But, the Tedeschi Trucks Band album you see here — it’s amazing. Not only does it sound great musically due to the musicians that make up the band — it looks great visually too. Excellent album design, and the photography inside it automatically stood out to me. There was just something about it. So, I checked the photo credits, and Mark Seliger is who shot it all. So THAT is why it appealed to me so much. Mark Seliger is probably my favorite photographer, and has without a doubt had the biggest influence on my work. Both of these albums are worth buying, and Mark Seliger’s work is certainly worth taking the time to check out too. His book, Physiognomy, is what inspired me to get into commercial photography. Picking up that book in a Books-A-Million in Valdosta, Ga one night years ago changed my life. I’ve been working to be as good as him since then…
