“Sometimes I do get to places just when God’s ready to have somebody click the shutter.” -Ansel Adams

I started a new photography project that revolves around southern people, places, and activities back in June while visiting my family  in South Georgia and North Florida. Well, one afternoon I was driving from Tifton, GA to Norman Park, GA for a shoot, and I passed this field being sprayed by a farmer in a tractor. It wasn’t just any tractor spraying just any chemical though. What really caught my attention in this case was that the farmer was spraying a bright yellow chemical that tied into the yellow on the John Deere tractor he was driving. It seemed to me that it was too good of a shot to just ride by and not catch it, so I didn’t. I pulled over and actually climbed up on the roof of my truck to gain a higher perspective to shoot from — and I was shooting with a Canon 70-200 2.8L lens. There is nothing inconspicuous about this lens, my truck, or me climbing up on top of said truck with said lens to shoot with.  So, I imagine the farmer was wondering what my issue was, and why I had taken such an interest in him. The shot you see above is the final product of my efforts in capturing it.

Well, the amusing part of this story to me is that my friend, Jennifer, who is from Tifton, instant messaged me the following a few days after that:

“I was sitting in my office when my coworkers husband, a Coca-Cola distributer, came to see her. We were discussing you taking pictures of Tyler when he chimes in, “Speaking of photographers –I was driving back from Moultrie when this dude cuts over to the side of the road, jumps out and gets on top of his truck to take a picture of a tractor. I looked at him and said, “was it a yellow SUV?” to which he replied, “yes it was!” “Yep, I know him!” He said, “that dude is crazy!”

Yes, I drive a yellow Nissan Xterra. Yes. That was me taking the shot posted here that he saw that day. And yes, I can get a little crazy when it comes to photography and getting the shot I want.
